The field of portrait photography is the easiest area to get involved in, subjects are everywhere around us and we do not need to spend time and energy finding the perfect location to shoot.
It is vital that a portrait photographer has a genuine interest in his subjects. It is important that the person being photographed feels comfortable with the photographer and is able to be relaxed during the photo shoot. A portrait photographer needs to be a natural conversationalist so that he can help the subject feel at ease.
A portrait photographer also needs to be able to read people and observe their habits, expressions and comfort level with a variety of poses. Understanding the comfort levels of a subject and their mannerisms will help identify a person’s best side and angle.
